INTA / SAIIPL Roundtable on the new ADR Procedure
On 18 July 2007, a combined INTA / SAIIPL roundtable on the new ADR Procedure for .co.za domain names was held at the new premises of the SAIIPL at Innovation Hub in Pretoria. The roundtable was attended by approximately 75 members from the Intellectual Property profession. The guest speakers were Neil Dundas, the current administrator of the .co.za ADR Procedure and Dr Owen Dean, the adjudicator of the first case lodged in terms of this procedure. The case related to the domain name . The introductory talks by Mr Dundas and Dr Dean gave background regarding the adoption of the procedure and also the factors that should be taken into account for the adjudication of a complaint. A panel discussion took place afterwards. The panel consisted of Mr Andre van der Merwe, the adjudicator of the second case relating to the domain name , Mr Calvin Browne, a director of Uniforum S.A. (the administrator of the .co.za domain names), Mr Mike du Toit, a senior adjudicator and Mariėtte Viljoen, the current president of the SAIIPL. The general consensus of the attendees was that it was a very interesting discussion and that this procedure is quick and cost effective, as it was intended to be.
